Event Description

Naneghat is a mountain pass in the western ghats range near Junnar in Pune district of Maharashtra. During the reign of the Satavahana (200 bce–190 ce), the pass was extensively used as a trade route between Kalyan and Junnar. The name nane means “coin” and ghat means “pass”. The name is given because this path was used as a tollbooth to collect toll from traders crossing the hills. The ancient carvings on the walls of the cave are from Satavahana period. Here we find inscriptions in Brahmi script all over the cave. Trek to Naneghat is through dense Jungle of Malshej region. The final part of the trek is through naturally formed rock steps. One will come across few water streams during this trek. Views from the top is breathtaking some of the surrounding peaks are clearly visible. Nothing better than a totally dark night, Camping and mountain range surrounding making the perfect destination for star gazing and Star Photography.
